New to the PSX Scene... where to start?

I've had a Wii for a long time and softmodded it about 2 years ago. Well.. its getting boring and I want to learn how to softmod (not sure if softmod is the correct term when it comes to PS3... I guess I mean to say jailbreak?) a PS3.

I haven't read any of the stickies yet because I'm not sure where to start. All I know is, there is currently no way to jailbreak a PS3 that is above 3.55. Can anyone lead me in the right direction of what threads I should read? And is it possible to play backups online?

First off, welcome to PSX Scene.

You should certainly begin with the stickies. Read them all! And no you can not play your backups online.

correction - there is no way to softmod/install cfw on anything above 3.55 without additional hardware. Check out progskeet and the e3 flasher to give you an idea what to do if your cursed above 3.55. Might want to also try restoring your ps3 from the recovery menu if you are above 3.55. Just back up the important stuff first. I'm on 3.55 on my slim (the one that was in the uncharted bundle) but when I do that, it installs 3.15 which is my stock firmware. Don't know if they fixed that on higher firmwares but it couldn't hurt to try on your model as long as you do a backup first
