New PS3 User....please help!!

Hey,
I am looking into buying a jailbroken PS3 from a friend of a friend. He says its a fat PS3 running on 3.55 kmeaw. Now Im very new to PS3s so I was hoping someone could tell me what this means! Can I run cames off the HDD? He says he has a 750GB HDD and already has games preloaded but I would have to do something call true blue to run newer games. I have no idea what any of this means so if someone could help me out and shine some light on this for me I would be greatly appreciative.

You'll need to check that multiMAN runs and is able to load a game from the hard drive. Any game released in about the last year you'll need a USB stick called TrueBlue to play them. Look here True Blue - play 3.6+ games on your jailbroken PS3 . There are cheaper versions of it and counterfeits so make sure you get the real thing. You'll have a lot of problems with the knockoffs. It's about 60 bucks but you can play the latest 100+ games that are patched by PARADOX

Get the model number. Since it's a PHAT, you might be able to play PS2 games too if it's fully backward compatible through hardware emulation (instead of some PHATs that use software emulation). If it's fully compatible then get a Cobra USB. You'll be able to play most of the old PS One and PS2 games from your hard drive too - Also some PSP games

Since you're new you should know that you neeed to leave it at 3.55. If you update the system firmware you'll lose all your backups and functionality. Also you can't get on PSN for any reason right now but you can play some games online if they support LAN using XLink Kai

Edit: Also make sure the bluray player works. A lot of old PS3's have busted bluray drives
