new HDD means new CFW?
new HDD means new CFW? –
im on 3.41 hermes cfw and going to replace my internal then restore from backup.
will i need to reinstall cfw?
You'll have to reinstall not only CFW, but also OFW and restore your saved data, and reinstall games. And if you're looking forward to load backups, I recommend you to use an external HDD, that way you'll be able to store more games in there than in the internal, there's a lot less compatibility issues that way.
hmm i made the internal hdd backup on 3.41 CFW, will it be a problem restoring that?
will it not just work if i stay on 3.41 CFW hermes, put in new hdd, format, restore from original 120gb hdd backup (which has all the jb files on it)?
Or he could just transfer the saved game data via FTP, then restore the same way. You won't be able to restore the whole CFW with a backup, anyway, is not that hard to install It again.
There is a utility called CloneHD.
It will make a bit for bit copy of your old drive to the new one and resize your partition too. So you got a full backup with your trophies and everything and no firmware reinstall. Just copy and swap drives and your done. The catch is that it takes a few hours to copy the full bit by bit.
Search my posts in the past couple days and you'll find what I mean. Or PM me and I'll show you the TUT I linked too.
so if i put in new hdd format it, can i put 3.41 Hermes straight away or do i need to do OFW then CFW? i can just ftp the save files since its all i care about
i have a fat and just upgraded hdd. didnt need to reinstall FW at all.i saved my gamesaves to a usb and then reloaded pkgs afterwards

i just put in new hdd and said fw cannot be found and needs to be installed again.
guess the slim fw is stored on hdd not on flash as on the fat
All the models including some fat and all slim that have only 16MB of NAND will say this. Older fat models have 256MB NAND and the firmware gets saved on it. Because 16MB is small, the firmware gets saved on the HDD.
