I have the same problem on my CECH-2104A.
Changed the 120 GB Toshiba HDD with a Samsung 640 GB. Everything worked fine.
Then I ran into the GT5 Savegame issue after updating from 1.05 to 1.09.
I read somewhere that the "restore file system" option might fix this problem, and so I tried...
But it told me that an error occured during the restore operation an that my hard disk must be formatted![]()
After formatting my HDD and losing most of my newer savegames, I tried "restore file system" again, and the same error showed up
I also did a full 30+ hours format, same problem.
So I went back to my local computer store and purchased a Western Digital 750 GB as a replacement.
Popped it in the PS3 and tried the recovery menu again.
But the same f***ing error.
Each time I select "restore file system" it also needs to format my HDD...
I´ve seen this problem appear in many different forums, but no one seems to know why this happens and how to get rid of it...
I tried 3.55 OFW and KMEAW but 3.66 OFW seems to have the same problem.

Could it be that only drives with more than 500 GB are affected by this problem? Because my original 120 GB disk works fine with "restore file system".
Can anyone with a 500+ GB HDD (and a system backup) try to restore their filesystem and post if it works.
It would also be interessting to know what PS3 model and HDD is used.
I have exactly the same problem with my Samsung 1TB drive that I bought last week and I posted about it in the thread "CFW silently corrupts HDD" which is still on the first page. You should check out that thread pogopete.
Pogopete, could you please post the model number of that 640GB samsung and 750gb WD drives? I'm trying to narrow down what causes it. At first I thought it was "advanced format" on some drives, but there's another user on another forum who has a 500GB drive with advanced format and he does not have this issue. Then I thought it was a plain size limitation, but in that "CFW corrupts" thread, a user with a 750GB WD drive reports that he doesn't have that problem. So at this point I'm very baffled. I'd like to buy the largest HDD I can which does not exhibit that problem...
Also, 99problems, if you could post your 640gb drive model, I'd really appreciate it.
