New Grandad wanting info!!!!!
New Grandad wanting info!!!!! –

Hello all......
Please don't dismiss this post as I need help....we all have to start somewhere.....
I have 2 grandsons who each own a PS3.
The parents will only buy one original of each game understandably, but sometimes they both need the same game....so they need a backup of their original.
When they had PS2's, I used to see them right and was able and competent enough to fit mod chips for them...so I am not a complete lame brain!!
They are now pestering me for the same with their PS3's but I understand it is now done more or less thro software?....am I right????
I have looked on the net and my head is swamped by technical jargon relating to the above!!!!!
Could some one either post something for me, or email me direct to get me started...ie advice on which is the easiest to use / simple tutorials on how I can help them make / play backups of their games ./ if it is possible depending on version of PS3 etc.?
Please remember ....I am 55 yrs old and not a whizz kid....my top technical days were a number of years ago and technology has moved on since.....however I like to think I have a bit of something about me as I use to mod PS2's ......and as part of my job.....use PLC telemecanique programming software which I can prog to an extent and use to fault find.
Please have patience and I (we...grandsons as well) will be eternally grateful.
Most of all.....please help us!!!!!!
Thanks
Kanewesley

ok lets start by finding out what firmware you have you can find this in system settings then system information.
model number on the barcode on the outside of ps3 would something like chech***** so we can help to find if it is downgradeable if your ps3 is over 3.55 then your only option is to downgrade with E3 Flasher or Progskeet.
get back with this info i ask for and someone will respond i will keep checking for your reply and help all i can.

For clarity, your ps3 model number on the barcode (on the back or bottom of the console) would say something like C E C H A - 0 1 or similar. For example my ps3 is a CECHL01 which corresponds to the last 80gb FAT console they created before the slims came out.
Once we know your model number, we need to know your current firmware version. Turn on the PS3, find your System Settings option, scroll down to the bottom to System Information, and tell us what the System Software Version # is. That will tell us whether or not you can jailbreak your ps3, or if you will have to downgrade.
