Need some advice urgently
if you were to buy a new one in a shop it would be higher than 3.55 so no it could not be jailbroken i would search ebay there are a few on there 3.55 you would loose everything on your current hdd if you put it in a different ps3 as it would need to be formated but the ylod is quite a simple fix plenty of videos on youtube but i would fix it and get all the games off your hdd then put a smaller hdd init and sell it on as ylod fix is not permenant so could go again some last longer than others i am waiting delivery on a ps3 with faulty bluray drive but its on 2.53 i will be selling that one once iv fitted a new drive
Thanks for the response.
I did check those videos you are talking about - though it does seem possible I dont have the necessary tools for it - the heat guns etc and out here in India it is all that much more difficult.
I know that the hdd would need to be formatted but can I not back up the current contents and then restore them once I get a ps3?
As for the ebay option - shipping to India takes the price of a ps3 itself, so thats really not an option. I got to try and get it fixed but I just dont know how
The heat gun method works surprisingly well if done correctly, if you can loan a heat-gun it's well worth doing. My 2006 60GB is still going strong a year after the repair albeit with the top casing off, the internal power supply generates far to much heat. A good quality thermal paste and flux and a little time you'll have that PS3 running like a dream.
Oh that sounds good but I got no clue where I can get a heat gun etc. Also thermal paste etc - getting them all here is a royal pain.
Let me hunt around. Was just hitting this forum to see if buying a new one can get me back to 3.55 kmeaw which was working so well for me
