Need help on upgrading CFW
Need help on upgrading CFW –
Hey guys, I had a Ps3 which I downgraded myself and used to work fine on MM although im still a newb. However I became busy and got a friend to update my CFW later when newer games started coming out, being out of the scene Im lost now lol. I believe although My serial starts with "CE" that He swapped my system to a DEX model but am not sure. My system software says version 4.25, has the "debug settings" under settings tab, and Title store preview in the PSN tab. This would make it a Dex from my understanding correct?
Next question, is to upgrade to newer CFW, would I go through the same process of updating to 3.55 OFW, then to the newest DEX CFW which i believe is the 4.41? Then add the newest multiman?
Online use is not important to me on my ps3 as I dont really play many games online but would be cool if possible without a ban.
Thanks ALOT in advance for any help guys!
You need to convert your console to cex and then upgrade to 4.46 rogero or rebug. If you want to have a dex console just upgrade to rebug 4.46 D-REX. If you choose the second option the newest multiman isn't compatible at the moment and you have to use ps3ita manager 1.40 to load your backups
Edit: If you have a dex console you should find "Format BD Emulator HDD" in debug settings, if not you have a cex console
okay thank you, Ill stick with the DEX so I dont brick my console. Would upgrading to rebug 4.46 D-rex require me first downgrading to OFW then to rebug 4.46, or can I go directly from what I have to the rebug 4.46.

You can install rebug 4.46 D-REX directly with no problem.

this is the error you get when installing a cfw over ofw, but since you are on dex you should not get this error.. Did you downloaded the rex edition or d-rex edition? try also installing the firmware via recovery mode.
Here’s what you need to do to boot your PS3 into Recovery Mode.
Step 1: Turn off your Playstation 3.
Step 2: Hold the Power button down. The system will turn on and turn off once again.
Step 3: Once the system has been shutdown, press and hold the Power button again until you hear 2 consecutive beeps.
Step 4: When you hear the 2 beeps take your finger off power button. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then press the PS button. The Recovery Menu will pop up.
then choose the option 6

This is confusing me, On my system information my firmware just says Version 4.25, but I know its a DEX and is jailbroken as I can play certain games off of my External HDD.
Are you sure your usinf DEX? I recently installed ReBug 4.46 onto my PS3 to, and I guess I'm running it in ReBug Mode. Which give you the PSN Store Preview thingy too. It could be that your mistaking C-REX for D-REX. I'm not sure if you can install D-REX onto a C-REX w/o some deeper Hacks that involve "Keys" that can only be ripped from CFW3.55....
Or so my understanding goes....
I believe so due to all the reasons I listed in the original post, but am not 100% sure... i also play games on my external by following a video on youtube called how to play games on a dex system, multiman doest work on what i have. Ive been searching around on forums but still havent found the issue.
I ma pretty sure you are currently running 4.25 DEX OFW. Did you removed any disc inside your ps3 when updating
