I borrowed this PS from a friend and it came with 3.41 and a matrix PS3 dongle, I tried updating to 3.55 OFW through recovery mode but it says 3.56 or later is required. Trouble is the website for this dongle no longer works, so i can't program it to downgrade....

The frustrating part is when i start up the console without the dongle, system information reports version 3.41

I googled for hours and everytime i come across something i get dead links

I intend on installing kmeaw's 3.55 but first i need to downgrade to 3.20 (minimum firmware), question is do I need to buy another downgrade dongle or is there some alternative (free) workaround that doesn't require downgrading at all?

    Thanks in advance

the system you have has been downgraded from 3.55 to a 3.41 fw that been edited to trick the system into thinking it's 3.56 (outdated downgrade method). I would say your best alternative is to downgrade to a lower fw in FSM and then update (you could also use QA flag method but would need to keep the flag enabled to prevent system from reading SYSCON)

Are you sure your friend wants his ps3 updated to 3.55 you said you borrowed it ? And you shouldn't have any trouble updating to 3.55 from 3.41 just do it like another update

i'll assume FSM is service mode, the problem is with this dongle, as i mentioned I can't reprogram it to downgrade

I read about the QA flag method and needed otherOS++ special firmware and a pkg file, the problem is the links were dead and google did not help me

can you help me with the QA flagging method?

You don't need to be on the otherOS++ firmware to be able to QA flag......just install this Toggle_QA package > toggle_qa.pkg

CrashSerious & team have put out a FSM app that should work for your system. Also REBUG has released an app to quickly QA flag your system w/o the need of OtherOS++

You can see if it worked by going to Network settings on your XMB and press L1,L2,L3,R1,R2, and down on the d-pad.....if it worked then you should see some new options appear (one of them being "Eddy Viewer").
