Need advice to jailbreak ps3
Need advice to jailbreak ps3 –

Hello all, i've been reading this site for a couple of weeks and i have some questions. I got a spare PS3 at Fw 3.70 i was going to send it out to get downgraded to 3.55. I am not interested in playing online, dl'ing games, or modding/hacking games. I just want to back up my games to a HDD and hopefully not have to keep loading up the discs. So here are my questions.
1. I see threads for JB, what is the best/latest tutuorial?
2. Most of my games are old but i have tale of graces that i believe is FW 4.11. Do i need a true blue dongle? What do i need to do to prevent a disc from updating the ps3?
3. I see a site on PS3 game backup compatibility. Is everything difficult to rip to a drive, is it even worth it? If yes, would you advise for an internal drive, or a larger external?
I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

Ok, You dont need to worry about a game updating your ps3 because it will say "You need to update the system before your next use of this game" so you will obviously cancel that. And Thats why you would need a TB or you can use a 4.11 spoofer and take the risks of getting bricked and not being able to use your jailbroken ps3 anymore. And i would suggest getting a external harddrive because when you back up games it takes up a LOT of space or get a ps3 that has 200+ GB. Also if you do use a 4.11 spoofer make sure to use any backup manager you use offline or sony can see your using it and they will brick you instantly. So turn off PSN and use the backup manager then go back online.

Thanks for the info. I jsut formated a 2tb external to fat32. I will take your suggestion and not use a spoofer. I never play online anyway. Is backing up to the external pretty straight forward, or will i have to patch most games?

The above info is mostly all wrong. First off the spoofer will never perma brick a PS3 secondly the true blue dongle is a POS that uses others code to profit..... Use it if you willl.... 3rd they can see sure but I sign in and uise homebrew ALL the time and my PS3 is just fine. Frankly just use ****PSN to connect they wont even be able to ban you then because they cant ID the console you are using...
So in conclusion use the spoofer. if it does have an issue which I've not heard of one yet with the 4.11 spoofer you can recover through the recovery menu by reinstalling the CFW. this prevents you from having any stupid friends (you may not be dumb enough to try updating it but who says others arent?) and gives PSN access. not really much of the online play works but that was ok by you. Plus anything you purchased before 11/1/11 on the Playstation store can be downloaded to you CFW PS3 (that is assuming we still have PSN access by the time you get it back and set up.) so why not?
and yes it is very straight forward (after the spoofer is enabled and the system thinks its 4.11.) any game that will play from the retail disc can be ripped and played as long as its a title that runs compatability is rather high. anything that you try to run and it returns to the XMB with an error that is a title from 3.6 firmware and up and will require an eboot patch to work. Most of these titles that have a fix require the true blue dongle to run... So like I said by it if you must but you have been warned that true blue is a bunch of thieves.....
So if you are going to jailbreak without the true blue I advice Rebugs CFW 3.55.2 with the 0.7 update installed. (you will want to activeat rebug mode and use either retail or debug XMB but note that the debug XMB sometimes has issues with media servers.... Nothing that breaks use just minor inconvienses If you plan to use the true blue dongle you will have to use the true blue CFW....
Oh and to answer a previous question go with internal. an external drive is an option too but internal supports games with 4+GB files where as external in FAT32 does not. =( though some titles may only work from external (I'm not sure about the last bit so don't quote me on it.)
Oh and again brick risk is pretty much minimal for anything. your risk is slightly increased as it is homebrew but its still minimal.
Any more questions just ask. enjoy your homebrew use m8. well don't ask me as I've pretty much told you all I know that Isn't about standard functions of the PS3 that can all be read up on in your owners manual... but any homebrew or CFW related questions fire away. If you have taken the time to read that hole thing I think it will give you most of the info you will need. the install and setup of everything is on you but like I said once set up the backup managers work pretty straight forward. only games that will need a patch is a title that was made for firmware 3.6 and up. and almost any brick caused by use of homebrew can be easily recovered. if you plan on using reactPSN that can prove pretty risky though as if I'm not mistaken you must patch the VHS.self in flash memory So yeah just have fun and game away! ok I'm pretty sure I'm done now. If i don't stop I may as well write a complete guide.

Thats pretty straight forward, I dont belive you would have to patch any of the games. I backed up games straight to my 3.55's HDD and it took up to much so i just deleted them.
