Hi guys, I'm not really new to the jail breaking scene, I've jail broken every electronic device that I have... EXCEPT my PS3 (because my girlfriend wouldn't let me until now) Well, with that said, she gave me the "all-clear" since our warranty is up.
NOW (with that being said), It's a CECH-2001a I'm not sure what firmware was on it when I bought it, but it was way earlier then 3.55. Unfortunately, a buddy of mine wasn't paying attention and updated from 3.55 to 3.60. so my question is, I have a Sansa e200r with rockbox installed and running perfectly, I have a PC with SATA support, and plenty of other hard drives to play with. Is their any way that you guys could formulate in your "E"Brains, that might help me to install "later than 3.60" firmware.
Try to find it in your hearts not to flame my pants off (I've used the "search" feature, I promise.), but if I formatted the PS3's hard drive with a PC, could I get the PS3 to install an "update" (Firmware of my choosing) onto the NAND?
Feel free to PM me if you want to remain An0n. Thanks in advance for any help you guys.

No scene custome firmware for 3.60 at the moment, keep checking back every few weeks but don't update if any new updates are released in the meantime. Ignore all the flaming, I'm sure it's coming lol

Eh. If I was you, I'd just stay on OFW and enjoy psn. Currently, there aren't any homebrew apps or emulators that justify the headache of trying to find a downgrade method.

It's not so much that I'm worried about PSN access, because I don't currently have internet at my place, I have to come to my folk's house to steal their bandwidth.
It's the emulators and home brew that I want, screw PSN. I can deal with the headache of downgrading, I just have no idea where to start with my current firmware version. I'm also not worried about having any 'certain' scene CFW. I'm actually more concerned with giving my PS3 the ability to dual boot. Other than that, if I can't play on PSN, I'm not overly worried about it. My ultimate goal is to have my PS3 work as a media server running a nice build of Linux, but I would still like to retain the "gameOS" so that my girlfriend, and my other less "technologically advanced" (I have been asked the question "Where is the 'ANY key' "?) friends can still pick up the controller and play my console like they would any other one without wrecking any work I've done. (like upgrading the firmware.)

Like was mentioned above, since your ps3 is on firmware 3.60, there is no options you have for any kind of homebrew, emulators, linux, or anything besides official Sony Software. To simplify the process, in firmwares 3.56 & 3.60 the keys we used to decrypt & encrypt were changed. The algorithims were done correctly this time, so we can't obtain the private key like we did before. Sony also isolated everything to lv0, so until a developer who releases his work to the public, there's nothing you can do.(Explanation is very simple, if curious there's many threads with detailed explanations)

If you attempt to downgrade your ps3, it will be stuck in service mode & will be essentially useless until someone finds a way around the revoked self. There are developers working on a kind of dualboot with linux/gameos with full access, but that is a way off. It could be days, months, or years before something is released for firmware 3.60 (or higher). If homebrew and linux are a big deal to you, I would honestly buy a ps3 off ebay with a broken blu-ray drive, & fix it. It can net you a full working ps3 for 150-175 dollars. Or just wait, play on PSN, & enjoy your ps3. Even if a new hack is developed, it's doubtful you would have PSN access for more than a few weeks if at all.

Hope all your questions were answered by myself & others. Let us know if ya need anything else.

I understand that, I wasn't looking for someone to send me a link to a tut telling me how to "DOWNGRADE 3.56 or 3.60" I'm not looking to get anyone in trouble.

@stock2255: I understand the deal with the private keys, but as I stated before, I really don't give a SHIT about PSN. I don't normally have access to the internet, so obviously, $ony has no way to access my PS3. So if the reason I can't get any 'good' answers other then the previously quoted one (which was totally useless, and a waste of time for someone to sit at the keyboard and type, as a reply to this thread) is legality issues, please for the love of God, someone PM me and we can have a private conversation elsewhere. Me and my Girlfriend are at our wit's end with this PS3. The whole reason I decided to go about 'jailbreaking/downgrading/back up support' was because I borrowed a game from a friend (DEADSPACE2) which he bought legally from his local retailer. When I put the game into my PS3 I got the dreaded '80010514' error. Needless to say, I know it's not a hardware issue, because the ps3 still works flawlessly other than that stupid error that pops up.
That being said, even that isn't enough to make me super angry, because the same exact game (DEADSPACE2) same disc and everything WILL work about 4 out of 10 times. However, A couple games that I have recently bought (GRID, RDR UNDEAD NIGHTMARE, BLACK OPS, etc.) Are NOW also giving me the same error on occasion. It's disgusting that I'm even receiving this error, when it's obviously not an issue on my end.
Before anyone asks if I've done a backup/system restore, the answer is yes. SEVERAL times. I just want a little advice about how to play the games that I bought for myself, but now can't play without the trepidation of ejecting and re-inserting the same clean, dust-free, and scratch-free disk.

Here's the problem with your PS3. There is really one 2 causes to this: bad hard drive sectors OR corrupted firmware file(s). Go to the recovery menu and pick Option 3 which is Restore File System. When it finishes, your games should load perfectly. If that doesn't then this might. Get the 3.60 PUP file from Sony's servers [B]ONLY.[B/] I'm saying only their servers to rule out any file errors that could come from constant downloading and reuploading to different sites. In the recovery menu, go to the option "Restore System."(this is different than backup/restore) This will find the 3.60 firmware on you flash drive is x:/PS3/UPDATE/ and install it. If that doesn't work, then in the recovery menu, pick "Restore Default Settings." If that still doesn't solve your problems, then the last thing to do is go Rebuild Database. Finally if that doesn't work, then you have a faulty bluray drive. You'll have to call Sony and get a replacement.

There really isnt any need to type anything lengthy, you CANNOT jailbreak your PS3 at the time. If you think this isnt helpful sell your PS3 now and grow some balls and tell your GF you can do what you want to with the PS3, you dont need permission.
