Here is my theory on how it is possible to make a copy of the dev_flash from almost any fw, old and new.

Can some one with a infectus chip and a JB pleas test this out

First flash the ps3 nand's to fw3.41,then start the ps3 with JB and install
USB Firm loader and FTPserver 1.0, then make a copy of the dev_flash to a usb stick.
Then start the Firm loader, while you are runing the dev_flash from the usb, flash the PS3 nand's to fw 3.50.
Then use FTPserver1.0 to acess the dev_flash0, this should contain the 3.50 fw!?

If this works, and i can't see why not, it could be done with any fw that people with the infectus chip have a made a copy of.

And no, the dev_flash is not locked to one ps3. I have tested.
And it does not contain any personal information.
I have hash ckecked two dev_flash folders, from two differnt ps3's with fw3.41, one Fat (US) and one Slim (EU),
    and they are identical.

The xRegistry file may also change between the different fw's,like entries for enabeling OtherOS on the old fw's
and more 3D settings on the new fw's.

When you run the 4.50 installer it reboots the ps3 so you wont be in JB mode and wont have access to FTP or Firmware loader to run in 3.41 mode ?

I would have thought a firmware decrypter program for PS3 would work better similar to PSP.

Note: I said similar, not the same...

Theres a way to unpack .PUP and you can extract one of the .tar but the other main file inside is encrypted.

It'll be that part which needs to be decrypted on the PS3 itself, in fact I'm surprised that there isn't a firmware decrypter already available to be honest.

It seems like the logical next step now that firm loader is available, this would mean JB consoles can get back online.

I am not talking about installing/updating to fw3.50. I am talking about directly flashing the nand chip, no need to restart.

I have allready ordered a Infectus 2 mod Chip, so i will try it out when i get it.

Okay, i si this might not work on newer FW then 3.41.
Because it is not possible to successfully flash back to a lower FW.
But you dont need to do that to get a copy of a older FW!

So this should work if you already hav a copy of a older nand flash, like FW3.15

Run the firm loader and load the fw3.41 dev_flash from a usb, then flash the nands to fw 3.15. Then copy the fw3.15 from dev_flash0, and the xRedistry from dev_flash2

    id10terror: partly confirmed this.

He swapped his fw 3.41 hdd while runing the FTPserver, whit a 3.15 fw disk, and was able to copy parts of the fw3.15 from dev_flash, he is probably using a "newer model" ps3, where a big part of the dev_flash is stored on the hdd.
