My boy wants to play online with his friends - how do I go kmeaw to official

Whats up fellas,

so I am on kmeaw 3.55 (since it first came out, have not made any changes or updates as a matter of fact just noticed that my multiman is something like 1.16 - I have not played at all). My son has been buggin me to play online with his buddies from school and this stuff is sometimes easy and sometime a PITA so before I FUBAR our system I wanted to ask if there is a specific way I need to update or can I just update from the XMB?

Just delete all homebrew applications and delete any additional folders you may have created, and procede to install the latest firmware update.
If you want to be extra cautious, install 3.55 OFW and format the PS3's HDD and then procede to install the latest firmware update.

Buy a cheap ps3 from ebay? Why waste your 3.55?

If you really want to update, just update the offical from cfw and done.

you could upgrade from xmb but most, if not all homebrew wont work. if your on official firmware i dont think sony would ban you so you should be good
just install ofw 3.55 first and if your worried about ban, just reformat the hdd and your good.

to be safe:
basically reformat drive, 'update' to ofw 3.55, then to 3.66

if your worry free: (i would at least recommend installing ofw 3.55 first but im not a dev so idk if it helps or not)
just update to 3.66 from xmb

the worst the would happen is probably a ban, but idk if updating straight from cfw would/could cause a brick

You are aware that once you go Official, you can't go back to CFW, right? At least not if you have a Slim, otherwise you need an infectus and you'll need to do soldering.

Don't have the money to spend on another ps3 so my only option is to upgrade, so reformat, update 3.55 ofw, then update 3.66 via xmb it is. And yeah I know once I go 3.6+ ofw I am screwed but I don't have a choice at this point, I need psn, don't have money for another ps3 so thems the breaks, it was good while it lasted.

im gonna have to say stick at 3.55 - get ya son a new shiny ps3 for his bday / crimbo and keep ya homebrew - i recently got a ps3 fat off ebay for 140£ - afew games on the HDD and fifa09. got my slim to play PSN
