ooohhhh
Thats a good one, forgot about that! yes, it was ported to xbox, but man! so much issues with getting it to run properly.
This would be nice, I wouldn't mind playing with that again, maybe create some new fighters. Find ways to bring updated characters from recent games.
ehm, nice.

Mugen will not run correctly on the PS3. It requires too many resources. Once you get about 5 characters and 5 stages with mugen it's already way past 256 MB of memory. Simply put, unless someone makes a completely custom version of mugen for the PS3 it won't ever run on it.
Like another user said it was ported to the Xbox and still had numerous troubles when it was already in X86. As the PS3 uses power PC you would have to design the engine yourself. Emulation would be a no go because of how much mugen requires on it's own.

Can anyone let me know exactly why Mugen will work on an oldschool xbox, but everyone is telling me that the ps3 can't run it?

I already explained that. the old Xbox 1 uses X86 which is basically PC architecture. The PS3 uses Power PC. So you either have to use emulation, or you have to design the engine yourself. Which means that if you go for emulation your already taking a good chunk of memory, and performance right off the top.
Mugen is quite intensive the more and more things you shove into it. Xbox 1 mugen is nowhere near what it should be because of the fact that it just doesn't have the power. On my gaming PC mugen can take up to half a gig of ram or even more with all of my characters, stages, and screenpacks working. Do you know how much ram the PS3 has? 256mb IIRC.
Plus Mugen is closed source. So again it's not gonna happen. If it does happen, it will be nowhere near what it should be. It will be extremely buggy, highly restrictive, and just an over all mess.

HankVenture from this forum was a prominent member of the mugen community that was right along SyN and his buddies. He also said Mugen just won't work correctly on the PS3 once you introduce everything. You should listen to him.
EDIT: Woops it does show a customization. But nowhere near what usual mugen installs have. Once you start adding a decent number of characters and everything else to the mix. It won't work.
EDIT2: Paintown isn't exactly mugen. It looks like someone's implementation of the mugen engine. Which also raises compatibility issues.
