Not sure what your talking about. PS3 Media server works perfectly for me too.. WITH subtitles. Maybe you don't have your settings right?
I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to watch .Mkv. No need to convert or anything. I haven't had an issue with it yet. It plays 1080p on highest quality settings perfectly when wired. I've never tried wireless connection so I can't say if it would work. I highly doubt it tho. You can have covers, skip ahead/back in the movie, you can even find out the imdb info.

I think they should enable it themselves. Like you said it plays HD it should be able to play mkv. I was quite surprised when I first bought it and found out it didnt. But I'm sure the only reason why is because of piracy. Why else would they not. One big feature that everyone wants. Almost all mkv videos are pirated. They dont want to support something that they are losing money from. Not like it makes any difference. Its not going to stop people from downloading them and its not going to stop people from watching them so they should just go ahead and enable it make people happy and to get more ps3 users.

I do not see at all how this is more convenient. It requires you to have an external computer to be on, for it to be connected to the network, for it to be configured to share the media, for you to set up the server software, to set up the correct settings.
You are setting up something that you can easily just hook your TV to, saves you a step. OR, the PS3 could just play it all for you.
Streaming is not a convenience in my mind.

Er no the standard Xbox1 wont natively play standard MKVs via XMBC - the processor is not capable.
I had two XBoxes purely as Media Centres and once I started downloading HD TV programs I had to change to a XTreamer (I wont say upgrade as I loved the functionality of XBMC on the Xbox).

While I do want MKV support, I'm not going to blame developers for not making it happen. You can sit there and whine all you want but it's not that easy to do and if you wan't something done, do it yourself. I'm reading alot of comments talking about converting videos and using ps3ms. The problem with converting the mkv's is that while it may be quick and easy to convert an mkv movie, it's a real hassle converting hundreds of episodes of shows with subs(aka anime). And while ps3ms works well with the right setup, it's still less convenient and it doesn't sport the same features or usability as playing a video natively.

Well, I did play a movie on it in MKV format…..the sound wasn't in sync but the video played fine….but it did play..

Hardly a glowing recommendation lol. Seriously though I wish it did play MKVs flawlessly as I would go back to using it like a shot. But I digress.

You could say the same about XVID, and yet they added support for that.
Anyway, this is SUCH a minor issue guys. Everyone has already noted all the ways you can quickly and easily play MKV on the PS3.
