Missing BD-Rom Icon? –
Looks like I messed something up, and I might know how it happened... Maybe.
I had rebug with OtherOS support installed on my PS3, but was having issues with trophy errors and such. So I installed regular ol' rebug, version 3.55.1. In my haste, I forgot to flash to OFW first. Now, I can't actually watch DVDs or play games from the disc drive because the icon for that drive is not there. Pretty weird.
So I've now reinstalled OFW 3.55 in an attempt to restore the missing icon, but alas, it's still not there. I've restored default settings on the PS3, and and right now, I'm in the middle of running a system restore with a full drive format, though I really don't think it'll get me very far.
I've been doing some google searching and haven't turned up anything that looks like the issue I'm having, especially since I hadn't noticed the drive not working prior to installing rebug. I also made an attempt to find an already existing thread with this issue, but couldn't find one. Also, I didn't place this in the Rebug section because the problem persisted after removing rebug from my system.
Got any suggestions?
Sounds like a dead laser.
Try one of two things:
1- install BDEMU.pkg for 3.41/3.55 and restart your PS3
if that doesn't work
2- install BDRESET.pkg and run, then restart your PS3 and check what's up with the icon
...if you try to no avail, get off your current fw and go back to ofw and then kmeaw, retry then.
I've performed those steps, with the bdemu and bdreset packages. didn't get me anywhere.
So the disc icon just never showing up sounds like the symptom of a bad laser? I'd really like to get it back up and running, as it's one of the few PS3 models out there with PS2 backwards compatibility. Can I get a second opinion?
I'm not opposed to working on the hardware, but I do want to exhaust the possibility of this being a software issue prior to getting into the hardware side of things.
I'd flash back to stock standard and see if that works!
