I'm really surprised at how many people don't understand how BM works. You need a disk in the drive. Open up BM. Select the game you want to play, this will exit you to the XMB. Find the disk icon and press X on it. Don't use /app_home/PS3_Game. It has compatibility issues.

I think he has a disk in the drive, that's what he means by "original game". Maybe what it is, you are using the original hex that disabled backups? Or did that not even show BUM at all, I don't know. Never had it. tl;dr: check you have the most up to date hex (hermesv3)

    Download these 2 files.
    hermes_v3_Maximus.hex (HEX)
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service (Backup Manager)

Use Atmel Flip to flash it (if you don't have it, download and install it)

    Click File > Load HEX
    Select the hex you downloaded

Click Device > Select > USB
Look for ATUSB90 (if I remember correctly)

Now check all the checkboxes (all 4)

    Click Run
    Click Start Application

    Install the backup manager

    That's how I did it.
