Long time 3.55 Guy - Thinking About Updating. One question 3.55 vs 4.31 eboots

All of my games have modified 3.55 eboots to play. In the event I go to the new 4.31 CFW, I have two questions:

1) do I need to get the original boots for these games in order for them to work on the 4.31 cfw?
2) If I want to play online, these games require updates. With the 4.31 CFW, can I just go online via psn and get them (let sony do it automatically) or can I use the PSN 3.55 enabler log into PSN and then d/l the updates that way? In that case, I would still be on 3.55 so would these updates override the modified eboots?

My experience is with Rebug.....

1. Don't need original eboots. The few 3.55 fixed games I tried worked.
2. You can play online with the official updates from Sony.

which cfw 4.31 is the best? rebug or the other?

And to retain online as sony updates their FW - will it just be a cat and mouse game where the devs update their fw and we update or is this online access temporary?

The only 3.55+ CFW I've used is Rebug, so I can't say which is the best.

I think that PSN access is going to be mainly be available, except for brief periods when new OFW comes out. You never know though.

can I go straight from 3.55 cfw to the rebug 4.31? I think I'm taking the plunge. Don't see any reason why not unless someone knows something I'm overlooking

EDIT - Now i'm getting confused. I thought if I install the rebug FW (which appears to be 4.21), my psn online will be possible and I can play games with modified eboots (made for 3.55). I'm reading some other posts and it seems users are having trouble since their eboots are modified. Everything on 3.55 is working well so I don't want to cause more issues although I would like to play the games online. Advice?

I was able to install Rebug 4.21 over Rebug 3.55.

If I were you I would just wait.

3.55 have all you need right now if you want to go online buy a new ps3 and just buy the game and go online with it. I am not being a "anit-piracy" nazi but I just don't think it would be wise to run a pirated game on Sony's servers. Eventually Sony will find CFW users a "pest" for keep on finding a way to get online Sony will resort to banning consoles.

It's one thing you have the game and you have an updated CFW that you can go online with but it's another thing if you are going online with no game at all. Kinda feeding fuel to the fire Sony is keeping track of what you are doing on PSN

It's kind of a catch 22, using a cfw ps3 online.

If you want no risk of getting banned, you'd best not go online, but then, what does it matter if you have an unbanned console?

On the other hand, if you want to actually use you unbanned console online, you risk getting it banned eventually.

In the end, the result is the same, you're not getting online, so I just use mine online.
