OK, here are the rules:

2) DO NOT list games that didn't work for you

Some games require disc in for installation, and some require disc permanent. You may find that games will hang the PS3 if you try going discless after install. So far i've resolved this by putting disc in and allowing re-installation again - then using disc permanent. I'm using Motorstorm PAL disc for testing

Trophies wont install. For GoW3, first start > Error 80022D11 > 2nd start > Game Works
Dunno if there might be problems later on archieving Trophys or gamecrashes.
THIS IS HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM
1. Start your PS3 into Recovery Mode
2. Let your PS3's HDD re-fresh the hard disc's content
Or remove following Files from HDD via FTP:
dev_hdd0\mms\db\metadata_db_hdd
dev_hdd0\mms\db\metadata_db_hdd.idx
3. Re-Starting PS3 and press OK to start, wait till done > finish and it works again.
NOTE: Every game I've had fail on the external USB drive has worked after copying it to the INTERNAL drive, so far. Try copying any failed backups to the internal drive before giving up on it.
This is still a tremendous inconvenience, since many people would prefer to use an external drive they may have spare (and may be larger), rather than going through the expense and effort to get a larger capacity 2.5" drive and install it)
