I have a checha01 demonstration console on 3.41 demo firmware. I would like to convert it to a retail console. I tried the Acid-CFW swap using mount alejandro and comgenie's afm outlined here and here but after I reboot the console there is no xmb just the background. In order to fix it I have to go into recovery mode and update to kiosk firmware putting me right back where I was. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I am following the directions to the letter.
Now I am also reading about downgrading but there are two things I'm concerned about. 1 I have a fat console with 256mb nand I donít want to lose my blu ray. I have the patched level2 file that is supposed to skip blu ray and eliminate the issue but I thought I read some people saying they lost it anyway though they could be nubs and not exited with second level2 file. Therefore, Iím not 100% on what to make of that. I also read somewhere here that Mark Weber said it didn't matter if u lose blu ray as long as you made backups of your dev2 and dev3 files on your ps3 by using an ftp program, which I did. I actually made a full on backup of everything that would copy over. However, I donít understand the procedure. Do I just perform the downgrade and reboot then copy the backup dev2 and dev3 back over and viola it works again?
Issue #2 Iím currently on 3.41 demonstration firmware. Is it ok for me to just downgrade to say 2.30 ofw? Actually, is that even possible to do a straight downgrade to a retail firmware from kiosk? Because every other way I try to update to retail ofw is blocked and it makes me use kiosk firmware. Everything I have found about downgrading is about downgrading from 3.55. Do i have to be on be on 3.55 kiosk firmware or can i just stay on 3.41? do they even have 3.55 kiosk firmware? Do I have to use the modified 3.41 pup that says its 3.56 or can I use anything?
Maybe some of you have been thru this already or know more about how the downgrade works and can shed some light on it for me.
