you probably have to do it in recovery mode !!!!!!!!!!!

How to Access Playstation Recovery Menu



1. Turn off Playstation®3.

2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.

3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps

4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.

5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button

6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

No, you can do it from System Update.

had same issue
Make sure your device shows up on PS3 (check video,music see if its there)
Make sure folder go

PS3--------UPDATE--------------PS3UPDAT.PUP

From my understanding my knock off controller will not work on 3.50 + is there any way to renable it ?

A lot of people do the same mistake quite often - folder names on usb stick should be in capital letters.

Make sure you rename it to PS3UPDAT.PUP, as only like that will the PS3 read it.

From my understanding my knock off controller will not work on 3.50 + is there any way to renable it ?

My fake controller did not work with 3.50+ without using a USB cable, too bad I dropped the controller and USB doesn't connect, had to buy a brand new official one :P
