so why do we need cfw according to some people?

CFW does not support unsigned code yet, maybe it will in the future, so the CFW is actually pretty useless for now

I don't get the point in the CFW. If you can SIGN anything on the PS3, then why don't just SIGN Homebrew or BackUp Managers and install them on retail PS3's?
Why don't you just update to the newest OFW and install all that SIGNED shit on your PS3?

But we cant sign anything that runs off the hard drive yet, that's the problem. NPDRM

The install part is kind of tedious without a certain feature...(but it is doable with PS3Proxy).

I'm hoping that eventually .PKGs won't even be needed. In the future maybe we'll just be able to copy folders with their EBOOT.BINs and other files in them, to the PS3 (or run them off the USB) and it will just appear under the game menu PSP style.

You mean forcing a package without an eboot?
Its possible but still a no go.
Either the PS3 needs to be able to run Debug eboots or the Eboots must be signed.

i want to see x360 controller support for the wired and wireless ones. and somewhere in the settings to map controlls :P

Wireless wont happen because PS3 uses Bluetooth and Xbox 360 connects via 2.4GHz.

Wired controllers probably wont work because both controllers use different USB serials. That's why XCM released XCM Cross Battle Adapter for 360 controllers on PS3 and XCM Cross Fire Converter for PS3 controllers on Xbox 360.

ps3 linux runs like a grandma in 100mt sprint race compared pentium with 512 mb ram.... and media center with mkv support leads to bluray piracy which they shouldnt also make one...
