The custom firmware released here is merely to enable the Install Package File on any firmware without the use of a dongle. It negates the need to run signed packages in service mode.

Exactly, it operates just like the OFW 3.55 (I havent ran into any irregularities yet, been on black ops all day wit kakarots MFW!) but with install package files enabled on the XMB. I think something different will come out to enable backup loaders and homebrew tho....something that wont even require a custom firmware. Then when everyone is enjoying signed BMs and homebrew packages...someone reputable will come out of the blue with a fully functional CFW, purely cosmetic.
The person I would keep an eye on would be good ol waninkoko. He blew the Wii wide open and frankly I can see him releasing the first custom firmware on the PS3 that anyone gives a shit about.
I see that could be wrong, but now that 3.55 CFW can pkg install and may also have a master key, just supposed to sign a backup manager and running on the games?
Or elimination of the 3.55 jailbreak to run the backup to block?
It was literally a couple of games during the 3:41 screenes black and this is because the JB is a memory book from that point of these games should be. Now, if you have to go without a JB, then this problem would also be abolished.
So would it be safe to upgrade to regular 3.55 and play Brotherhood online? As I understand it, upgrading regular firmware shouldn't be an issue at the moment as they can overwrite it with CFW.
It's been explained on this site several hundred times. The PS3 OS does not have the support built into the kernel to read NTFS. Furthermore, NTFS does not have an open source so it would be extremely difficult to implement it.
Back on topic, I think that everyone should just wait until we actually have the signing process perfected before installing these PUP files. There's no solid proof that Sony can detect you're using modified firmware, but in case there is, you're risking getting flagged just to have a useless addon.
eah so i just tried it out thinking i could go back to OFW3.55 but no luck.. am i missing something here?
First and last :) :) :)
There is a perfectly working NTFS implementation called ntfs-3g that is entirely open source.
Without source for the PS3 OS, porting it could still be very difficult but it is not at all impossible, and has been done on the Wii ( an easier target, but still).
