well the param.sfo on the gamedisc is of type DG. That's normal.
If you install a patch the param.sfo of that will have GD as type.
well the next thing to try is get that KOF and take it apart, spoof the sfo and see if it can act as another!
I have now figured out the obvious:
You can't install retail packages in debug/jailbreak mode.
You can't install debug packages in retail mode.
Hence you can't install game updates while using BM because you're in debug mode. It's really obvious but I only noticed that fact now.
You can install game updates by using the original disc or by the vsh/tasks method (automated by Demo Installer).
Some game backups mounted by BM work with game updates installed (like Killzone 2), others don't (like Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition).
BM terminates after mounting a game and exits back to the XMB (if it wasn't terminated the GameOS would ask you to terminate the current game before starting a new one).
Therefore disguisng BM as the game you want to boot is useless. That's also very obvious but I disregarded that fact before (stupid I know, but what don't you try to make it work :D).
The consequence is that if a game isn't booting because of a game update, there'll be nothing you can do about it (except making your own BM/enhancing the exploit's payload). The patch detects you don't have the right game inserted because the dev_bdvd to dev_hdd0 redirects implemented at startup by the exploit and which are used by BM are not perfect.
You will also see this if you mount a backup by BM, then boot FTP Manager on your PS3 and connect to it with your PC. Access dev_bdvd and examine the files. They are the files of the physical "original" disc in your BluRay drive not the files of the mounted backup.
Alternatively if you mount a backup by BM and startup Comgenie's file manager you will see the files of the mounted backup in dev_bdvd.
As you can see FTP Manager is not fooled by BM while Comgenie's file manager is.
shit! - SO WERE SCREWED!
So were screwed until there is a new backup manager [i bet it will only have ntfs support] or someone figures out how to get around, im tempted to backup my flash and try tinkering code by let’s leave that till another day.
Thanks for all the help brother.
Christ!
What a waste of time, leave it to the people who know what their doing....
lmao, did you guys actually think you'd suss it out.
Give it a couple more weeks and this sort of thing will be trivial.
erm... robo989
Haha, I would not waste my time.
But don’t you think information of any kind can be shared? Do you think there is anything special about the people that find exploits than us?? Leave it to the professionals of what?? Games?? DO you think that we didn’t learn?
How ****ing retarded and aggressive. Boy stop now before you come unstuck!
rdx manager + <= 8gigbkup+DVDr = update??
worth a try!
just put the game system files onto disk
then add a /GAMEZ/ folder too.
well.. its not going to work but no harm!
this isnt anything new. the only difference is your using the demo installer rather then manually doing things with the d0/d1/f1 trick.
the d0/d1/f1 trick in the vsh/task folder worked. updates install just fine, the problem is half the updates out there DO NOT WORK with the game. you don't want debug updates, they wont work. you want retail updates. if the retail update when applied asks for the disc to be inserted thats just the way it is. the update was successful. if you insert the retail disc it will work.
So when the ports are sniffed in [jailbreak mode] and I get an update that’s a debug update? Surely as the system is in debug mode then they should work?
