I have a fat 60G US PS3, firmware is 3.41 (downgraded from 3.5). I turned on JB mode, everything was working, I can install pkg from ext USB device.
However, after the installation, I tried to run this application. My PS3 went to black screen, and never responds.
    Any one knows why?
    HELP!

    Kamse,
I have installed every common HB pkg, OM, BM, awesome XX, FTP server, multiman, nothing of them works. BTW, PS3's blueray is not working, does these HB application verify blueray condition?

Bingo. If your Blu-Ray drive doesn't work then you can't run anything. But fail0verflow (as well as GeoHot and the Math team) will hopefully change that fact.

Anything? Do you mean I can't run these application which doesn't need blueray function? Can't even watch AVCHD?

From what I have read in the past, the PS3 verifies or checks to see that you have a blu-ray drive connected in your system and that you have the matching logic board in the drive before it will run any thing such as a homebrew app/game or even a retail game from a disk. Also it doesn't care if the blu-ray drive's eye is broken/fried it just has to be able to detect the drive and the logic board. Everything that I said SHOULD be right, if you would like, get another member to verify that what I have said is right, this is just based from what I remember of what I read a couple months back.

Also don't try to update the system through the XMB or a flash drive, it will probably get stuck in an update loop if you update the system; I'm not sure about updating with the service mode method with the .SELF files though.

Another problem could be that the payload isn't initialising correctly. But all signs point to the Blu-Ray drive.

The payload is loaded, I am sure. Because when payload is not loaded, system info shows 3.41, when payload is loaded, system info show 3.5.
The blu-ray is physically connected, but it is not working.

Any other member has a JB PS3 running with a broken Blu-ray?

Then hmm.. if the drive is physically connected then you should be good. I wouldn't know why it wouldn't work xD
