hello people,
ok ive been reading on the ps3 scene for a long time, [learnt a lot from this site] ive decided to register as there is one question playing on my mind
ok, so im planning on jailbreaking my ps3 3.55. now i would like to know does it make any difference whatsoever if its connected to the net. i watch bbciplayer 4od from time to time maybe use the internet browser, but i can live without this no problem. my psn account is behind a password.
chesh, tthousand what are your setups , what is your advice
thanks

if this is your only ps3, i'd remove all traces of psn activity from it. remove all usernames, psn sign-in (pw saved or not), everything. sony happens to log any/all information about your console and silently sends it to themselves without your knowing, logged into psn or not. if you ever decide to flash back to ofw to use the psn & your ps3 like normal, you'll probably be instantly banned (and out of luck in trying to go back to jailbreak!). however, if you NEVER intend to go back to psn, then just have your ps3 connected to the internet.

It doesn't matter if you're connected to the net or not. Sony isn't gonna ban you or anything unless you come on PSN, and when PSN comes back up, there's gonna be a new firmware, and PSN is gonna be different, so the FW might use different certificates and authentication, making your firmware not even know what the new PSN is anymore. You're safe if you're connected to the net. I still have my 3.55 kmeaw PS3 connected to the internet.
edit: kinda strange how...

I've been using waninkoko v2 for awhile now, and before that I used PL3 with a dongle, and have always had my ps3 connected to my network. I update games straight from the ps3 servers all the time without issue.
Though I do not nor have I ever had a PSN account, I would be more careful than I am if you are a PSN user. But really, as long as you don't try to log in to your PSN account with a CFW I think you're fine.
