I'm trying to jailbreak my cousins PS3 and I'm having some troubles... Whenever i try to update via storage media it says "No applicable data found" i tried it on my external hdd and a 4gb usb both formatted in fat32 but it doesn't seem to work? His PS3s model number is CECHG01 and it was 40gb but he upgraded it to 250gb. I'm sure i have put in the files properly on my USB/External X:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP, It's already on original fw 3.55 im trying to jailbreak it with waninkoko v2

I had a thread a few weeks ago about me having the exact same problem. I had used this drive in a ps3 that lasted about 2 weeks on me. I got a new one and just put the drive into this new ps3, thinking that at worst, the ps3 would say it needed to reformat the drive. Instead, it just told me I needed a firmware update to format the drive (for whatever reason that is). When I tried the update, it gave me the same error message you're seeing.

I solved it by hooking up the ps3 hard drive to my computer through an enclosure and reformatting that drive to FAT32 through the computer. After doing that, I put it back in the ps3, started the ps3 up, and then got the message about needing a firmware update when reformatting the drive. But this time, instead of getting the "no applicable data found" error, it just worked like normal.

At least in my case, that error message you're receiving actually had nothing to do with the firmware or the usb drives at all, contrary to what it says.

And it may go without saying, but when you reformat the ps3 drive through your computer, you'll lose whatever data is on it. You can get cheap but very serviceable 2.5" hard drive enclosures through amazon--I got mine for about $10. The cheapest ones at best buy were like $40--no way.

    Hope this helps.
