Jailbreak questions!

Ok lads, Ill admit im a n00b for posting this, but I just cant seem to get my head around the constant flood of new information that is coming out everyday,
But what im trying to do is jailbreak a ps3 with firmware 3.40, now im wondering, can I update to 3.41 without going to the newest firmware? If so how? Would I need to download the files and put them on my ps3?

Also I was wondering, for some1 who doesnt know much about compiling hexes ect, what would be the best way to go? I was thinking PS3Key, what do you guys think? How difficult is it to make your own jailbreaking device?

If you guys could help me that would save alot of frustration on my part :p

1. Upgrade to 3.41 via USB. Use Google.

2. Get the X3Max. It can use any hex file anyone compiles and has a nifty windows utility that even the biggest noob can't F up.

3. You'll need a backup manager. You can find a link to all of them stickied in the General Jailbreak section.

In terms of backing up games, can I just load all games onta an external HDD and play them?

Im almost certain you cant but I've heard speak of it being possible!

Check here for specifics on which games can and cannot be played from an external drive.

Actually, most games will work off of external. As long as they don't have files over 4gb (external HDD has to be formatted FAT32 which doesn't support files over 4gb). There are a couple of games that don't work no matter what too. But, follow the link strictlyfocused posted as that's the compatiblity list that's ever changing and updated by the community.
