Jailbreak PS3 HDD Upgrade Load Time Optimizing - 5400, 7200 or SSD?

I have an Phat 60GiG PS3 running 3.41 and PS3 Break device.

I have backed up a few of my games onto the disc but I have a rather large collection and want to upgrade the HDD.

My question is

Should I get a 5400 or a 7200 ?

Has anyone tested if there is any REAL work load increase when using a 7200 over a 5400 with manage.pkg?

What about a SSD? I have a SSD from my old PC not in use and am wondering what kinda load speeds id get off one of these?

If l buy a 7200 ill do some tests vs my currect 5400 to share :crazy:


If anyones done some speed tests running manager.pkg off 5400, 7200 and SSD would they please share there findings?

idk i bought a 320GB 5200 sata 2.5 idk the HDD name
i bought this because i heard the 7200 over heats the console a lot faster
so i would expect it to be the same speed but the heat is faster

I've heard rumour that even if you have a 7200rpm drive, the ps3 only spins it at 5400rpm. Not sure how this would work, as the drive has it's own controller.

Anyways, I have a 5400rpm samsung 500gb, and I've found Red Dead Redemption to get a bit of lag in high detailed fast moving parts of the game. Not sure whether this is:

a.) Normal and expected with non-updated running off HDD.
b.) Normal and expected of the game altogether.
c.) Possibly HDD is on it's last legs
d.) Because it is a 5400rpm not 7200rpm.......

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't see much speed difference between a fast 7200RPM drive and an SSD as the SATA Host Adapter (In the Phat at least) is only capable of SATA-I (1.5Gbps) speeds.

As for the PS3 only spinning a 7200RPM drive at 5400RPM, this could be plausible as 2.5" hard drives can often operate on two different voltages (5v and 3.3v) with the spindle speed changing to accommodate for the difference in power.

would it work if i convert the sata connector to a usb with an adaptor (you can buy these off amazon or some china website or something), then connect to an external usb hard disk (u can do this with a phat with the wire sticking out)

would be cool and u can run a 2 TB HDD as an internal :)

(although USB is probably slower than SATA, but its still faster than Bluray ROM)
