Hello all,
i stumbled across this site today, ive recently decided i would like to have a go at this, but i dont know what benefits there are of jailbreaking or how to do it.
plus i have heard oh so many horror stories about this, what are the real risks? (i have envisioned i flash a cfw and i can play backups of ps3 and ps2 games offline, and as long as i keep it offline all will be good?. but i also was hoping should i ever wish to go backonline in the future i would only have to get the latest ofw from sony site and flash that? and all will be good, except i will lose benefits of jailbreak?)
So if you people could help me out here i would be very happy
(atm its at 4.25, but im thinking of checking the psn store out so may be upgraded to current by the time you guys reply)
oh yeah im not very savvy with this stuff so pleases explain as simply as possible, (imagine your teaching your grandma lol) please makesure i understand all of the risks.

Before you even consider any further you need to realize that you cannot jailbreak 4.25. You must be on 3.55 to use CFWs.

You need to buy an E3 flasher or a Progskeet to downgrade. If your system came with firmware above 3.55, then these devices will not work.

Downgrading is just possible with a hardware flasher. The E3 flasher is an example of this.
EDIT: What indirect76 says. He's always the quick one, haha.

Yes, you do have to downgrade, and the only way of doing that is with a hardware flasher like e.g. E3 flasher or Progskeet. There is no software-way of doing that. As such it can be a problem: either you have to buy the flasher yourself and learn how to use it, or find someone with the flasher and hire that person to downgrade your console. I cannot help with either of those, mind you, as I do not own a flasher and I do not live anywhere near you anyways.

The E3 flasher is like a little computer. It's more than just data.
