jailbreak compatible external drives?
jailbreak compatible external drives? –
So far as I read that the PS3 can use up to a 2 tb external hard drive. It seems that some are more compatible than others and on the other thread about this is seemed more discussion on internals than externals so I am asking what 2 tb externals are working well or 100% with jailbroken ps3's for running backups of the games I own?
I seen that the wd 2 tb my books are working....but whatabout the wd 2 tb elements drives?
What about internal hard drive solutions using the usb external enclosures?
Portable external hard drives?
Do we want externals that have to be plugged into a power source besides USB power?

Hopefully I'm understanding your questions correctly.
There are mixed reports about Internal drives larger than 1TB.
I've heard that it can be done, but I personally tried a 1.5TB drive, but it would always hang during firmware installation.
You're welcome to try it out yourself, but i recommend buying a hard drive that can be returned.
External hard drives (plugged into and read/write by USB) have no real limit in terms of current hard drive capacities. A 2TB drive should work fine as long as it's FAT32 formatted. If "elements" is that "green" low power technology, I'd advise against it since they reset the head too often, causing excess wear and speed drops.
If you're using a 2TB external drive, I'm assuming it's a 3.5", and so it will need an external power supply. In other words, USB will not power it like it would a notebook drive.
I am looking for a 2tb performance external drive to use with my PS3 to play backups of the games I own without using the Discs. I figured the green low power stuff would be too slow to get good performance as they most likely are intended just for storage...I want something that is capable of performing and playing games from...
I see theres stuff like WD Mybook and WD Elements. They both claim they are equipped with high performance drives. They both have external power cables that can be plugged in I assume. They are both 2 TB and claim High Performance..Elements drive is a little cheaper and doesnt stand on its side like the Mybook...are these drives being used by people here?
I seen alot of Phantoms brand 2 tb externals but I never heard of that brand before..and thers buffalo, seagate, etc....anyone know of any of these non WD externals drives working and performing to play games off of?
Now theres external drive enclosures that you put a regular hard drive into that protect and some cool the drive, some are made for hot swapping etc...this setup you can buy a high performance regular internal hard drive and pop into the external enclosure to use as a USB external hard drive. I do not know of anyone using this type of setup...is it compatible? I would think a nice 2 tb WD caviar black would go nice in a enclosure that would also cool the drive...not just a cheap one that protects and allows portabilty but has active cooling...Anyone using this type of setup succsesfully? I dont care much about hot swapping so if I went this way it would be an enclosure that is usb 2.0 and has good cooling...
No one has a reccomendation? I am sure someone is using a 2 tb external drive with good performance and compatibilty????
Yeah im pretty sure jb supports external drives, or else half the people here wouldn't even use it :L

Thank you Geohot and fail0verfl0w for fully hacking the PS3.
What 2tb setup did you go with in the end? Did it work ok? Any stuttering in cutscenes like uncharted etc.?
