Internal HardDrive Upgrade Help
Internal HardDrive Upgrade Help –
02-28-2011,12:39 PM
Hi,
I have Ps3 Slim 160gig CECH2501A. I want to buy a larger internal hard drive for it. I heard some people who upgraded their drive are having sound shuttering problems(sound not matching with graphics processing). Possibly due to drive's RPM difference.
So it would be very helpful if anyone can give me suggestion about which drive i should buy and if drive rpm really matters.

5400rpm is what the PS3 drives usually are and that is probably the best value for money say 500GB drive. Sound not matching thing sounds like BS, that or the guy has a broken console

Not saying it is, just pointing out that it does happens, i use in one of my ps3's a 1tb wd that is recomended on this site, all games works great, with the exception to kz3, which has sinc issues.

I remember reading one of the reviews on newegg stating that the ps3 didn't provide the proper power settings or something to that degree that it did in windows and so the drive would constantly go into an ideal mode. He mentioned some program that changed the settings on the firmware. Might be something to look into. RPM's affecting sound seems really strange though, I'd be willing to bet on a whole lot of other factors before blaming that.

And that's why I stay away from "Green / Eco Friendly" drives.

It wasn't a green drive and if I had to tell you right now I think it was a western digital blue. Of course at this point I have nothing to back that up.
On another thought though, people have put SSDs in their ps3 which have no rpm and they work fine as far as I know.
