If I am understanding what the quote is saying, I do not like the idea of a donation account.
Why not just find somebody to buy the hardware from and pay the price he is asking to get it to somebody in the U.S. (obviously you should be reimbursed if you were the one to make the purchase (plus a little "spiff" for your efforts of course))?
If it were to mean a donation account for the person who ended up doing the reverse engineering...........that, I could deal with.
Don't get me wrong.........I would want the person in Indonesia properly compensated for getting the hardware to the U.S. (or wherever it needed to go to be worked on).
I can just see a donation account set up on many sites and one person ends up getting many thousands of dollars just to send a piece of hardware.
"Hey send this guy what you can......even if it's only a dollar" kind of "gets my goat" if you are simply talking about sending a little piece of hardware.
On a small scale..........it's just like the fact that I REFUSE to buy gasoline from a Shell station.
They generally run about 10 cents per gallon more than the surrounding stations.
I drive all over America and have seen this in most places I have been.
I typically put 32-34 gallons at a time in my vehicle (2-3 times per day).
Hey, it's less than 3 1/2 bucks.
Multiply that by the millions of people that fill a vehicle each day and it adds up to a stupid amount of money that Shells gets.
I don't really know if that's a good comparison, but it makes perfect sense to me (I am a little twisted though

).
If a donation account were set up for one day on one site and the account was shut down the instant the amount required was picked up............I could possibly even deal with that.
Would still be real easy to abuse though.
