I want to upgrade to 3.50 - need some direction

I have a PS3 160GB slim which I bought last week and has 3.40 FW version installed. My primary reason for PS3 was for 3D movies, blu-ray and media streaming. I understand that the 3D movie capability is only available from 3.50 onwards.

So I would like to upgrade from 3.40 to 3.50 since this will give me the option to downgrade later if so desire. I searched for information and appropriate fw file but I was not successful. Can someone please point me to thread(s) where I can find the 3.50 fw file and the directions to accomplish the task. Also if there is anything I need to watch out for or do something special to be successful.

Ok follow these steps:

1. take a usb flash drive and format it to fat32
2. make a folder and name it PS3.
3. in the folder of PS3 make another folder and name it UPDATE
4. download the 3.50.PUP from ps3-hacks.com
5. put the 3.50.PUP in the UPDATE folder
6. put the usb in ps3 and go to system update and choose the second option ( ...... medium)
Follow the steps on screen.

Did you buy that PS3 used? If so, is it one of the phat systems? Because if it is, you have a chance of loosing blu-ray movie playback when you downgrade to 3.41.

1: Update your PS3 to 3.50

[ROot] PS3/UPDATE/3.50.PUP

2: Re-Enable PSN with the DNS hack

DNS PRIMARY: 67.202.81.137

Same for secondary
3: Now sign into PSN and go to Account Management —> Activate account –> PS3

Download PSN Content.

4: Once downloaded, start the game, then exit to XMB.

5: Backup Hard disk, from the system menu.

6: Downgrade to 3.41

7: Restore backup

8: now you can play your PSN Game on 3.41
