I may be getting a kiosk console someone answer my questions please?

so the PS3 I got was a kiosk console. I asked someone what that meant and they basiclly said it's a demo model that does not allow anything but running movies.


he said that you need to use a special CFW to get it out of kiosk mode but I got a question...


If I ever wanted to go to OFW 3.55 say and switch to another CFW would I need to do anything special?


is there a way to get rid of kiosk mode permanetly off the console? it does not sound like anything really that great other than allowing you not to acess settings or anything....

I forgot to mention that it is on 3.55 kmeaw I think. But I read that kiosk consoles freeze alot? or was that outdated info? will it really freeze every half hour?

A Kiosk console is 100% a normal Ps3 with a slightly modified firmware tht limits the amount of time anyone can hog the console at the shops.
You can use a code to deactivate that part.
You can also use a CFW that just outright converts a Kiosk to a standard console.

MFWbuilder has an option to remove the Kiosk bits with a single tick.
You may want to google it though and ask questions before you get carried away.
For the most part, read as much as you can, then do as little as possible.

Hold L1+R1+Select+Square simultaneously. When the security settings icon is selected in the XMB, it will ask for you to input a code (four digit code)

So basiclly it was just a display model and the real kiosk was underneath I assume? a little confused lol.

There is only 1 kind of Kiosk Ps3. So it's a kiosk, or it's a retail unit.
If it is kiosk, you should have a sticker underneath that says demo unit.

As stated above, it either is or is not a kiosk.
Kiosk PS3's were ONLY supplied to major chain stores & places like EB games etc to demonstrate games etc.
There is NO such thing as a kiosk PS3 that was ONLY able to play movies just for Blockbuster etc.

Kiosk= everything except the ability to use things like PSN, etc. Locked it will make games or movies play like crap after a pre-determined amount of time to stop people hogging it. Cured by using an unlock code.
Alot of the icons are greyed out, and there is a message in the bottom right corner to state that it is in "Demonstration Mode"

If you do not have that, then you do NOT have a kiosk PS3 or you have one that someone else may have screwed with to unlock and has done something stupid.

The sheer fact it has Kmeaw tells me this is not in Kiosk mode, or that he screwed up something.
You should be able to use recovery console and flash any 3.55 CFW to it.
Do not use factory service mode to downgrade - or it's bye bye bluray movie playback.

factory service mode? and someone told me I can just check the label on the console if it is a CECH console or not.


but maybe the guy worded it wrong? either way he said it was at blockbuster but was never locked down...so what could he mean.

These were standard retail 40 and 80gb fat models. they were never code locked as customers were not to interact with them, you were only able to stand near them and watch the pretty bluray movie that the manager had started himself via a remote control.

[can't post link] were code locked to prevent customers from changing and messing about with the system menu and such.

Think of it like this. The PS3 is a games machine first.
Sony make money from selling games, not movies (that everyone makes)
There is no "Blockbuster BluRay ONLY PS3"
They would have used a retail unit in a custom built cabinet that they made.
