You won't brick it. Just make sure you have access to the internet on the PS3, and just for added precaution, you may want to download the firmware (3.50) and put it on a thumbdrive. Make a folder called PS3 and then a folder called UPDATE under PS3 (I think caps does matter) (ex e:\PS3\UPDATE) and then put the firmware file in there. I believe it will ask you for it when restoring the HDD. You can find the update here: Ps3OsRels - EurAsiaWiki
Didn't need that, worked flawlessly.
It did a complete format, i had to create a new user, enter timezone and time etc and it was completly restored, and the CoD Black Ops installed perfectly as well.
Glad i did it, now lets get our game on! PEW PEW!
And CoD:BO installed 3.5 for me, also worked ofc
