I got my TB Dongle yesterday have a problem with HD Space –
Hi guys I got my tb yesterday I upgraded to tb CFW v2, and updated my dongle to 2.61. first run was kind of buggy everything loaded extremely slow and some games wouldnt start. im not sure why but a reboot fixed that and everything is going smooth now except for one massive problem. My hard drive now shows i have have only 500mb left and it keeps giving me messages about it. The thing is before installing TB CFW I had over 100gb free.
I havn;'t seen this problem mentioned before does anyone know whats going on
are you sure it's not a multiMAN's cache problem. Check the dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/CACHE folder. Also check you don't have a bunch of game data installed for games you're not playing at the moment
cache folder is 130mb. Im sure i do have a ton of data stored im not using i havea terbyte drive so i havnt needed to worry about that yet since i should have over 100gb free still. the new tb games are on an external drive so really nothing should have changed with my disk space after the install or maybe a little if its bigger but i shouldnt have lost 100gb.
if you've been trying a bunch of new games you might have lost the space in game data installs. Other than that the only thing that I could tell you to do is to go into multiMANs file manager and check the properties of the folders in dev_hdd0. You should be able to narrow down where that missing 100 gigs went. I've got a 1TB internal too. You do know that 10% or 100 gigs is reserved for the PS3 system files no matter what firmware you're on right? Maybe that's where your unaccounted for space is. multiMAN's file manager will be your best bet to track down the lost space
yup but ive been running 3.55 kmeaw for a long time now and havnt added anything new to the hard drive always had 100gb free. once i loaded tb cfw that 100 gb dissapeared has nothing to do with game installs...unless it reserved an additional 10% with the new install?
no, it doesn't. Only thing you can do is try to track down where the space has gone in file manager. If it's an older drive or you keep your ps3 in a place that's not ventilated well you could just be experiencing the first stages of a hard drive failure
ahh dont say that! ha but its about a year old i believe the ventilation isnt bad. ive only had one hd crash on me ever and it lasted a good 10 years before it did. my total hd space is showing 830gb which seems low i know a hard drive never has the full ammount but id expect it to be at 930 or even higher.
Mine says right around 830 (827 I think). It has to do with the way that manufacturers advertise hard drive space and the way that they are formatted. Here's a good explanation of the math of what's advertised and what you actually get. HDD's - the Advertized size vs the Actual size. - Windows 7 Forums
The end result for you is that you should have around 930 gigs useable space on the drive before the PS3 gets a hold of it. The PS3 is going to reserve 10% of the advertised size so around 100 gigs for it's system files. That reserve made sense when the PS3's had 20 gig, 40 gig, etc drives because it would reserve 2 gigs, 4 gigs, etc, but it kind of bones us on the large drives. After all is said and done you have roughly 830 gigs actually useable for storage on your PS3. Sucks, but what can you do?
ah yeah the additional 10% is on top of that, wasn't thinking. well then the hd is showing the space fine i guess ill dig through it like you said, thanks for the help
everything seems fine hmm maybe it was bugged before and not showing the correct ammount of free space...i did have an issue with that once when i had deleted some games and my hd space never updated. Now i need to free up some space i have a ton of game data stored how do i delete this the safe way id prefer not to lose any save files but get rid of the stored game data. Is all of this stored in the game folder? and are my saves stored with them or could i just delete all the files in that folder (except the laun1234 which contains my actual games) and then just reinstall data for the games i play?
