We have entered a new age. The Digital Age.
Yet we still are stuck in the industrial age. And every moment that we should be pushing into the future, into the Digital age… the remnants of the industrial age are pulling us back. We need to throw off the old, get rid of companies, begin learning and creating for the sake of it. The industrial age served to offer motivation in the form of monetary goods. We no longer need those… with our current technology, we can feed, house, and entertain nearly every person on this planet. We need to teach our children to learn for the sake of learning, to create to advance the entire species.
Copyright and patents had their day. But now, they, along with companies and most factories, need to fall into the past. They are an abomination… the very idea that you can take an idea, a series of words in a specific tune, a string of 0s and 1s, paint on a canvas, and bar anyone from using those ideas again is an abomination. It stifles innovation.
What if the circuit had been patented? What if the recipe for gunpowder had been patented? All our current technology would not exist. Nearly all of our current technology is built on the skeletons of past technology… and now the skeletons of the past are roped off to all but a certain few, the companies that put out the original idea. So what if this person found a way to increase efficiency or power… if he tries to put his idea out there for the masses, even for free, the company will smash him into the ground.
This leads me to my next topic… corporations. In their current form, they are a monstrosity that uses their money and power to push laws into place to protect their interest. They corrupt the governments of the countries they operate in. For the latest proof of this, refer to… any copyright law. With the internet as it is RIGHT NOW, we can copy and distribute nearly any knowledge that exists to this day. With corporations pushing stricter and stricter copyright laws, soon a very large portion of that will be locked off from the common man, woman, and child. These corporations are pushing to limit the greatest repository of knowledge known to man.
And copyright infringement, what they claim to be doing it for, is ridiculous. The idea that you can stop someone from singing a song, or imitating a picture, or even 1:1 copying something is, to be frank, stupid. I do think that the people that first arranged the 0s and 1s, or the first person to sing a set of words to that tune should be compensated… but just because they were the first to do so does not mean they own the right to stop anyone else from ever doing so again. It is greedy to believe you can own an idea, or something non-physical.
But then again… the people doing this are the same ones who every day encroach further and further upon the privacies of the people who buy from them. The everyday user of the internet is constantly having their privacies breached… companies coming in, watching everything they do, and then tailoring ads to you in an attempt to sell you more of their junk, or for worse, more nefarious reason. They come inside your homes, watch what you do, and do it all without you ever knowing.
I say… down with the industrial age. It’s up to us, the people, to educate those around us, and to educate ourselves. Spread the word… make everyone dissatisfied with their current lives. Make them yearn for knowledge in all forms. Make them want to revolt against the corporations, and the government. Only then can the digital age transition come to pass.
Spread the word.
