I don't really understand...

There's been a lot going on lately with the ps3 jailbreak scene, and I'm finding it hard to keep up so I'll just ask:

I have a 250gb slim PS3 and its jailbroken on 3.41, am I able to update to 3.55 and be able to play backups and play online?

Yup, just update to OFW 3.55 and then update to your choice of CFW although I recommend Kmeaw CFW. Use the lv2.pkg fix your permissions and run your back up manager.

yes you can!! (there are as of now 4 cfw's (1 patch) that are available for your ps3) do not blame any1 if you brick

read the front page news.. and update your self about it

Do as ToMoBoBo says and update to the original 3.55, and then install kmeaw's CFW and lv2 patcher pkg. From there you just need the backup manager of your choice (Rogero is working rock solid for me, haven't had an issue with any of my games).

I know it was probably a dumb question but I didn't really know and it's been hard to catch up lately :P

what about playing online? is it safe yet?

Never will be safe unless we know how Sony will be detecting us. You can assume that if you get online, you'll probably get banned eventually.
