How to jailbreak PS3

Hi guys I have read on the net about people playing PS3 backups from a external USB hard drive.
I'm interested in modding my FAT PS3 so I can do this also but need a little guidance from someone who has done this before.
I'm currently running FW 3.55 and from what I have read I need to downgrade back to 3.41 is this correct ??

I found a website PS3,break, PS3break,PS3 dongle, PS3break.com they sell a USB dongle that downgrades your system from 3.55 to 3.41 can someone confirm if this works.

Once I have downgraded how do I then jailbreak the system to start using backup manager ?
I have herd of another USB dongle made by Eclipse can someone confirm if this is what I need to purchase and how do I set it up and what software do I need ?
I haven't been able to find a complete tutorial on the web showing the jailbreak process.
One last question a lot of the new games require the 3.55 environment to work, is it true ?
I have been told that some games just will not load using the 3.41 FW unless you upgrade your FW first ?
Any help and info would be great.

You don't need to buy a dongle, you just need to flash a 3.55 CFW.

Thanks for the quick response infordump but for us newbies are you able to expand on that a little. I have read how people are using 3.55 custom FW.
Where can I download this CFW and how do I flash it onto my PS3 ?
I did come accross a website talking about 3.55 CFW but from what I read and understood no one has been able to get backup manager working on it yet ??????

You better start searching and doing your own homework instead of asking questions that have been answered so many times bud.

all the info you need is in this site, but you need to do some work instead of having people just give you everything right of the bat.

As it stands, your not ready to mess with the ps3, so hit the search tab here and or google, it is your friend after all.

One last question when using the CFW is there any issues when playing games online on the Playstation Network ?

You cannot and DO not GO online while using KMEAW....
