I believe if the console was made in 2011 it should be fine, and in Feb 2012, they started making "unhackable" consoles. Notice the quotation marks
Fats are good because most of them have backwards PS1/PS2 compatibility, and this is much sought after thing in the PS scenes. Meaning, it's good to sell, and it's good to mod, it's a great thing!
Slims are where you lose BC, and you also have to know which one you are looking for, so you don't buy an unhackable model by mistake.
I'm still on 3.55, I have not had the time to take the jump to 4.21+ yet. But yes, I assume either that or Iris Manager. Possibly Rogero Manager as well, but I am not sure about that.
And technically, that was three questions
I might as well throw in another answer. In case you didn't know, downgrading a console is no simple task. But there are those that will do your dirty work. Just make sure to check their credentials.
@PSX-Scene memebers: Please feel free to ask any questions related to jailbreaking your console here, and we will try to respond.

From what I understand, if you're on ANY CFW, you should be able to easily update to Rogero 4.3.

I tried using the search function and I have no idea what I should type to search in google. I bought a CECHA01 60gb NTSC ps3 and it is running OFW 3.50 and I wanted to Jailbreak it yet use the Cobra USB dongle I purchased and play my games through PSN considering I'm a Plus subscriber . I got Cobra USB so I could rip my discs to my HDD and not keep this disc case nearby (Most ps2 games are without cases and PSone games take up so much space.). My question is if there is a guide to help me do a jailbreak for OFW 3.50 and use Cobra USB? I'm usually pretty good at all this but I'm actually confused with the PS3 jailbreaking process and using dongles etc..

Cobra should have a guide at their website, in their download section. Basically, I think you need to update to 3.55 OFW, and then install Cobra CFW from there. Feel free to ask any follow up questions, so that we may get you on your way.

Ok. I have read and read. I like modding. I turned my laptop into a chrome book. Turned my netbook into a TOUCH screen android and have 3 smart phones running different firmwares. BUT i have yet to find a good solid tutorial on all of this ps3 jailbreaking. i understand how it works. the whole 3.55 but of keys. i have 4.31. i want to jailbreak and modify my game save data with hex editor. I pretty much want 'root' permission on my console yet i still want the online gaming capability. please feel free to lead me in the right path.

Awesome, thank you. I hope I can watch 3-D blu rays too going to hate it if we have to pull the 80gb 2nd gen into the bedroom everytime we do lmao. By the way anyone with PS+ notice that Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition is free? Makes me excited.
