There are a lot of tutorials out there, google will point you in the right direction. right now you "understand nothing." after you start reading what's out there, you will understand something.

You may want to have an experienced adult do this for you because you may break your PS3.
can i downgrade my ps3's latest firmware, if yes then how?
Depending on the model, yes and no. Older systems can be downgraded using a hardware flasher. Newer system will have to wait for another option, if there EVER is one.
I've been doing a lot of reading and there is some conflicting information so just need quick clarification. I am on 3.41OFW and want to move to the latest Rebug 4.30. Do I need to:
a) 3.41 -> Rebug 4.30
b) 3.41 -> 3.55OFW -> Rebug 4.30
c) 3.41 -> 3.55OFW -> 3.55 Kmeaw -> Rebug 4.30
TIA for any help
First of all, fantastic thread. A lot of helpful information here. I'm very new to ps3 modding but I had few questions I was hoping to get answers to.
1) For a while in this thread (6 months ago) people were saying upgrade to 3.55 CFW, but last few pages mention Rogero/Rebug 4.30. Is it standard that everyone goes to 4.30 now?
2) I have OFW that is earlier/lower than 3.55. Should I update to OFW before I update to CFW? Or is it safe just to update to CFW from my current firmware?
3) I have a first gen ps3 piano console 20gb factory sealed. In your expert opinions: should I just open it and use it for modding, or is it better just to buy a new/used ps3 and sell the rare 1st gen?
Thanks for the help in advance.
Here is some help for you guys. First off, the newer CFWs require you to be on 3.55 CFW/OFW before installation. So @indomatic, B or C would both work, but not A.
@thirst4rich, In my EXPERT opinion, I would say it depends what you are going to do with it. Those first gen consoles are backwards compatible, and that can be a high selling point to people looking to get the most out of the PS3 scene. If you have one, and you are wanting into the PS3 scene, it might be your best option. But it ultimately is up to you, and what you want to do with your console. If you know for a fact that you will never ever care/use backwards compatiblity, then perhaps you can find a better home for it, a place where some scener can mod the hell out of that console. Heck, we have a buy sell trade section here at this site, and I am sure people would jump all of a new BC PS3. Again, the choice is yours!
Thank you for your quick and helpful reply. One more question (sorry)!
Am I understanding correctly that it is still impossible to install CFW on any console you can't downgrade to 3.55? For example, I wanted to buy a PS3 320g Uncharted 3 bundle from a local seller, but I believe that has higher original firmware than 3.55.
Edit: MORE QUESTION (Sorry I lied!)
Is there any difference in console quality for fat, slim and superslims? I only ask because in Xbox modding scenes, you're not recommended to JTAG older consoles, for example.
So I install CFW, geto to 4.30CFW, then install Multiman to play games?
