How do find lower firmware PS3 in store?

Hello - first post here. I would like to get a PS3 for Netflix and for some gaming. I hate swapping discs so I will back up whatever games I buy up on the hard drive. I do not want to buy any additional hardware so I want to do a jailbreak via iPod/Android/etc...

In shopping for a PS3, is there any way to tell by serial number or anything else which firmware may be installed? I want the lowest possible firmware I could find, right? Also, do I need a certain level firmware to use Netflix? Is online gaming the only thing I can't do when jailbroken? Thank you.

You will not be able to use the Netflix app on a jailbroken console.

Pretty much assume that if you are jailbreaking you will have no PSN access.

You can downgrade from any fw <=3.50 (pending some rumors on the newest models).
You can only jailbreak 3.41.
You can only go on PSN and watch Netflix on 3.55.

Jailbreak = no Netflix.

whether you miss typed or not, it should be

You can only jailbreak 3.41 and under to 2.01.

i bought a ps3 bundle online from walmart and it came with 3.40. So try that if you can wait couple days for it to arrive.

You may want to try Amazon. I just got a 3.40 PS3 Slim 160gb from Amazon. And yeah, it is pretty lame that they block all the content unless you upgrade, but honestly if I owned Sony Corp., then I would probably do the same.
