How can you to tell what FW a Patch needs?

If I want to get a patch for a game and see if it's using under 3.50 FW then what's the best method to find this out?

Do I just need to put the .pkg file in a hex editor and search for something like 35000 or will I need a special program to read the patch?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Any & all help is greatly appreciated.

ps3sfoedit will show you what you are looking for.

Will a hex editor work though? Just wondering since I'm sure you can only do and see but so much with an SFO editor.

Tried ps3sfoedit and it wouldn't load the .pkg file.
