Help w/ split game on ext. Also OM ?'s
Help w/ split game on ext. Also OM ?'s –

I was doing good with backups until 30 different backup managers started appearing. Here is my setup:
PS3 3.41
PS3break v 1.1 (1.5b installed, hermes v4)
currently using OM 2.1F and Open copy
I'm wanting to launch eye pet from my external, but I get an error saying split files are non bootable. My spanish isn't that good, but from what I understand, it is possible with OM 2.1. Am I correct? If so how do I get it to work.
My second problem is that none of my games will launch without going to xmb first, and 90% require the disk. I though this was fixed with Hermes v3? I think most of my confusion comes from the different folders (OMAN1234, LAUN1234, OMAN45656. Would someone be so kind as to explain these folders and their purpose. Many thanks in advance. I'll contiune to look through the forums for my answers. I'll post if I find them.

1) You can't run games with split files from external. You have to copy them to internal where any split file(s) should be combined. You split with Open Split or with split4G (the best one as it can copy a game to an external from PC right away automatically splitting big files and you choose split format - either for OBM or for Awesome Filemanager). As should be clear from above, you use OBM or Awesome Filemanager to copy them from external to PS3's internal.
2) Those folders are various backup managers' install places. Usually actual games go inside them in GAMEZ subfolder. F.e. it's ...LAUN12345/GAMEZ for original BM, and ...OMAN45656/GAMEZ for OBM. It's not too wise as backup folder should be independent from folder in which backup manager itself resides, but it's forgivable giving that it's just the beginning of the scene. So if you install OBM and copy games with it, it will direct them to OMAN45656/GAMEZ, if you use original BM it will direct them to LAUN12345/GAMEZ, but at least you always can move the whole GAMEZ directory or any backup in other place on internal with Awesome Filemanager.

Thank you very much greyest. That clears most of my issues up. I would like to ask another question or two though.
Since pretty much any game with files greater than 4 GB need to be backed up internally, is the best option to install my 640GB drive internally or use it USB? I'm thinking internally.
Next, since most of my games will not launch (black screen) without first exiting to xmb, does this mean I'm doing something wrong during the rip process? Most of them still require a disk to be in the drive as well. Many thanks for the help.

It obviously depends on HDD's size of your PS3. My PS3 has 320Gb and it's quite enough for games with big files, 250 Gb should be enough too, but 80-120 now that's another question. Anyway, the games with big files are minority.

I can't run games directly, because my dongle's current firmware doesn't allow it, can't help about this question. As for the requiring a disc, I have tried only 5 or so backups so far, and 2 of them required a disc in the drive - HR and GoW3. According to PS Jailbreak Compatibility List - Home it seems the games requiring a disc are actually minority.

Many thanks again
I have installed my 640 GB internally, FTP'd my games back over to it, and now everything is gravy. I did have to re-rip eye pet though to keep it from freezing on intro screen.
