Help playing games on 3.55 kmeaw –
I'm pretty new to the ps3 hacking scene, I just installed 3.55 kmeaw on my ps3 slim today along with multiman.
The thing is, I dont know how to play newer backups on my console that would require higher firmware updates. I'm hesitant to just put my MW3 disc into the console and create a backup to play because it might force me into an update when I try to boot it? I have however installed Untold Legends Dark Kingdom because I knew it was an old game and wouldn't require a higher firmware.
I've been trying to read around but I can't seem to find the answer to my question. I see that there are a lot of "spoofers" around to trick your console into thinking its a higher firmware. If I "spoof" my console to 4.2 or whatever, will I be able to play modern warfare 3 and other newer games?
Please give me some advice, thanks!
A spoofer won't really help, you need "fixes" for newer games. Check http://ps3scenefiles.com/category.php?id=42 for most, if not all of the ones that are available.
As far as I know you should be fine ripping a copy off the retail disk for MW3 (I've got the 360 version personally), it's always a good idea to go into the PS3_UPDATE folder after and deleting the .pup file to be batter safe than sorry. The fixes will contain a fixed eboot, param.sfo and one or 2 (sometimes more) other files, all of these have been fiddled with to allow usage on 3.55 CFW and stop the PS3 thinking you need firmware of a higher number.
Hopefully that makes sense, I'm full of whiskey

You can insert and rip MW3 no problem. the only way it would update your firmware is if you explicitly agree to a prompt when playing an unfixed version of the game.
To clarify, a spoofer mostly prevents you from accidentally updating your system. I've heard there are some newer game fixes that also need a spoofer to work though.
I have not heard of any games needing a spoofer to work.
Like the first reply said, you only need a working EBOOT fix. Replace the proper files in the BLUSXXXXX or BLESXXXXX/PS3_GAME folder (some times you have to replace other files) and your good to go.
If you are familiar with torrents you can find fixes for a large amount of games. Aso EBOOT_FIX is a pretty nice tool for games 3.55 and below. Some times you will run across a game that won't work and this tool will fix that problem.
thanks for the replies!
I was just wondering, how do i replace the files?? I pressed triangle on MW3 when i was in multiman and went to filemanager. I can see the eboots, .pup files, etc but dont know how to replace them?
the game is on the internal ps3 hard drive, not a usb drive. i dont have a usb drive large enough to hold the whole game
Go into multiman OS (hit select and start) bring up two folder window. One window with the back up files on your internal, and one with the fix file(s) on your USB storage device. You should be able to copy and paste from one window to another. I suggest you rename the original files in your back up before you move the new ones over just in case.
