Hey guys. Mods please don't move this as I know there is a X3 downgrade discussion post but all that is, is people flaming each other and I just need some help as I've tried everything.

OK my issue is I just cannot go from 3.50 to 3.41. I have tried all combinations that I could think of for the PUP files such as 3.50 to 3.41 modified, 3.15 debug, 3.41 retail, 3.15 retail and none of them do anything for me. I either get a static green light on my PS3 causing me to reset as it stays static for over an hour or the flashing green light for well over an hour too, also causing a need to reset. I have to put the lv2diag.self file 2 back onto USB and reset using the double beeps and re-install 3.50 retail before trying again. This takes so much time and I just can't get anything to make it drop down to 3.41.
I have even tried the 3.41 designed for E3 card reader, I just don't seem to be able to get anything to make it downgrade.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated because I'm about two more attempts away from smashing it up!

    Thanks in advance.

Maybe your PS3 is one of these machines:

http://psx-scene.com/forums/f118/bra...adeable-73209/ (Brand New PS3, 3.5 firmware and NOT DOWNGRADEABLE?!?)

If so, then you are out of luck! -- Not currently possible with any dongle.

It might be a NOOB problem, lol. I remeber when I was first trying to downgrade, I kept putting the PUP on the Flash Drive as "Mod3.41PS3UPDATE.PUP", instead of "PS3UPDATE.PUP".

How did you get to 3.50? You put that onto a flash drive, and updated it via the XMB? I left another post on the x3max releases a downgrader thread, that might help you out. Along with a safe place to download 3.15, so you can try it that way. (3.50>3.15>3.41)

Make sure the 3.41 fw as PS3UPDAT.PUP, is in the Right-Most USB port along with the first lv2diag.self (FILE 1)

And that the dongle used to downgrade was in Left-Most USB port,
before proceeding. (and remove it when in service mode ofc)

i agree with tthousand...it could still be a user problem...when i first jailbroke my PS3 i couldnt figuire out why i couldnt downgrade untill i eventually figured out that the USB drive i was using to downgrade with had its own bootable software on it (and it couldnt be removed even with formatting)...changed usb device and it worked like a charm...

    From above link
First things first! If you want to try the Modded PUP again:

    From Service Mode:
1- The USB Drive you put your downgrade files on, must be FAT32 format.

2- When downgrading, make sure only two files are on the USB. Modded PUP and Lv2(1) file. MAKE SURE THE FILENAMEs ARE RIGHT, OR THEY WILL NOT WORK AT ALL!!!

3- When you plug the USB into your PS3, make sure you put it as far right as you can. The one closest to the blu-ray drive.

4- Turn on the PS3, and make sure you wait long enough. 5-10 minutes, more or less. (Towards the end, it is supposed to blink, then turn off)(If it just keeps blinking, you do not have the right files on the USB drive.

5- Turn on PS3, verify 3.41. Turn off, put Lv2 (2) file onto USB (only file on the USB!). Place it back into PS3 same place as before. 1-2 minutes, you should be out of Service Mode, and back into 3.41!

From all these quotes below, it sounds like you, Tahmasbi, do not have your USB set up right. Let us know exactly what is on it, otherwise we can not help you

Thanks for all these possibilities and there is actually one I am yet to try and that is changing the USB stick with the PUP on as I have been using the same one over and over again. Would this realistically be a common problem? Just need to know the chances as it would mean buying another one.

To clarify, the PUP's have all been PS3UPDATE.PUP so the files are correct. My process is as follows:

Flash the X3 Max with Downgrader.bin

Turn off PS3 from the back

Insert X3 MAX, turn on PS3 at the back then hit power then eject on the machine

Turn machine off using XMB (Tried holding PS and shutting down that way too if that makes a difference)

Turn machine back on to check Factory mode is active then shut down by PS button on Dual Shock 3

Format USB stick to FAT32 and place lv2diag.self from the first file on the stick and the required update PUP. For clarity I have NEVER put the PUP in folders, eg: PS3 - UPDATE

Place USB stick into the 4th USB port along in the PS3 (so the one closest to the ON button) I have tried variations of placing this USB stick in while the PS3 is turned off at the back AND when it is on, just in case

Switch on via Dual Shock 3 (tried machine switch on too)

This is when I get either a solid green light forever or more often than not, the green flashing light. To get the PS3 back on, I hold down the power button on the machine until it goes off, pull the USB, reformat it and place the lv2diag.self from file 2 onto it, place it in the same USB port, turn on the machine, wait for shutdown, turn on again and hold the power for the 2 beeps to enter recovery mode. This does seem like the only way I can enter recovery mode too.

I then update to 3.50 official using an official Sony memory stick in the memory card slot.

In regards to the history of the machine, nothing has ever been done to it other than me replacing the Blu Ray laser because mine burnt out. Just thought I'd mention it just so you guys have a full account of what it is that I have.
