Hi guys, let me apologize in advance because I'm sure that this question has been asked and answered a million times, but I'm new to PS3 modding, though I'm not new to modding consoles.
I wanted to mod my 40 gig PS3 Fat with 3.61 OFW, so I'm able to install a larger hard drive and play backups of my games directly from the hard drive (much quicker load times than an optical drive). I'm already aware of how to physically upgrade the hard drive itself, but from what I understand, in order to play backups from my hard drive I'll need a CFW, and I may need to possibly downgrade the firmware in the process.
I know that there are various dongles out there, as well as physical solder in modchips that allow you to play backups, and use homebrew software (like Cobra), but I thought that if I could get ahold of a tutorial that taught and allowed me to perform a softmod, that I'd give it a go myself.
I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Can someone please post a link to a tutorial for me, and where I can find the relevant tools, because I'm getting a little confused with all of the different methods that are used for different firmware versions and PS3 models?
Again I apologize, I understand that it's a very n00b question, and I feel like a real n00b for asking it, but I'm sure that once I'm pointed in the right direction that I'll be fine, and I would be very, very appreciative.
Thanx in advance for any assistance guys.
