Most people use custom firmware these days because it's free. Using doles is somewhat outdated. What firmware does your PS3 have?

Update to 3.55 official firmware http://psx-scene.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=17, by putting the PUP file on a USB drive (folder /PS3/UPDATE), put it in your PS3, then go to system update.
Then update to the custom firmware of your choice using the same method or with the recovery menu.

Do I have to use USB drive or can I use Usb harddrive
I don't really have usb drive right now to test it.
If I make the usb harddrive into fat32 will it work too?

Yep that will work fine. One update to OFW 3.55, reboot, install the KMEAW Custom firmware, then you can install PKG files. Install the latest multiman and bdemu2 and you're up and running.

Just be careful not to update via the internet, or from updates on games. If you go past 3.55 it is much more difficult to go back.
