HDD encryption help

I had a 60GB PS3 die on me and sent it to Sony for repairs, but not before taking my 160GB HDD out and putting the original 60GB back in, They did not repair my old PS3 but instead sent me a refurbished one that would not read my 160GB HDD. My question is the following.........Can Jailbreak do anything for me. I have irreplaceable videos of my son as a baby on this HDD. Please Help

I'm really sorry to hear that actually, but sadly not. The only thing you can do is complain to Sony and see what they can do for you. At this moment in time, the hdd encryption hasn't been broken [to my knowledge]

Thanks for your anwer although it's not what I want to hear but I hope that you're wrong and that someone can give me some hope. Or that it changes soon lol.

I wouldnt give up hope. Put that hdd in a static free bag and wait. I think its only a matter of time before the ps3 filesystem is better understood/decrypted. Even if you can never run that drive in another ps3 without formatting, I wouldn,t be surprised if at some point there is a program for windows, mac, or linux that will let you pull those videos off. It may be a while, but I think it will happen.

I understand, and can sympathize. Unfortunately that's why we are stuck using FTP programs at the moment via the XMB, if we had the HDD encryption cracked we could just hook it up to the PC and access it via a program someone made.

Thanx for that bro!!! I hope something does happen sooner than later. It's already been over two years since it happened and when I heard of PS3 Jairlbreak I thought the wait was over. Oh well I'll just keep waiting. Thanx everyone.

Get an external HDD encasement for your 160GB HDD.

Hook it up to your PC and format it.

Take HDD out of encasement and put into PS3

Format HDD in PS3

That should work

I know how to get the HDD to work, that's not a problem. I just don't want to loose what's in it. I could've formated it years ago and used it.

Go back and read the first post. He has videos of his child that he will lose if he formats. I'd just wait. It'll be cracked eventually, I'd wager.
