    Hi all.
I have a dead fat PS3 updated to CFW Rogero 4.20 just before YLOD.
I want to move the HDD to my slim CFW Rogero 4.30.03 without loosing data ,all my backups and savegames are on that HDD

Besides the slim HDD is only 160 but the older one 500.

Is this possible? How can i do thet.

    Thank you.

No luck. The hard drives are encrypted to only work on the PS3 they were formatted for. If you put it in a new one you'll have to format it

Thx, I know this, when using OFW. but I thought that CFW will allow you to do this.

    One more thing.
If i remove the HDD from working Ps3 and insert another one, format it using it and so on but after a while i want to install the removed (older) HDD back on the same ps3 wich formated it
    Ps3 will reformat it again?

So what you say? should i remove old HDD and reformat it ?

You can remove the encryption from the drives, but it's only good on a new drive for future swapping. I don't remember the details because I would have had to format it to do it which would have defeated the purpose for me

As long as the drive was formatted on that PS3 you can swap them as much as you want. I have a 1 TB drive and the stock 120 drive. I keep the stock 120 drive to use with my flasher and anything else that might trigger a hard drive format so I don't lose anything

Here is another question if you can help.

On the new HDD i have some backups and savegames.
So i want to insert the 500 HDD and copy the 160 HDD content.

Do you know what caused the ylod (is it a matter of replacing the thermal paste, a cracked mb, in need of a reball, power supply going out)?
I would first look into seeing if it is repairable before losing everything on it.

Do you have any extra drives laying around that you could use as an external to backup everything on the slim? Might be a bit quicker than ftp.

The first thing I would do is find out what the cause of the ylod was.
I would much rather go to my grave not needing my gun, than go there wishing I had it.

I've been waiting for a compiled version of this to surface. With that and your console key, you can recover your data. Unfortunately, it's been at the proof of concept level for half a year.

Yea ..i know what caused the ylod..

i got high temp on cpu 80C.. on RSX was 67 in idle so CPU problem not RSX and i changed thermal paste on both with AS5 but nothing happends.
I still had high ventilation turned on on level 3 after 10 min in idle.

Then i tried to remove The shield from CPU with no success (didnt scratched anything but applied a lot of force from underneath a side with a tool with no success.)
The shield hasnt moved at all. watched a lot of videos on youtube about this operation so i knew what i was doing and i was very carefull not to scratch anything.

When i understood how hard is to get that CPU shield off i gave up and put some AS5 back but this time i turned on the PS3 and ylod happend

I send it to a pro guy who do pro reballing he said that he cant remove the shield also only if the brake the mainboard he says, and never happened to him on other PS3s.

And thats it. He sent mey PS3 back.

Is there a chance to fix it?
